Plantar Fasciitis

More about Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis causes pain in the heel and under the arch of the foot. This is typically at its worst when you start walking on the foot after a period of rest, such as first thing in the morning getting out of bed. Usually it gets better once you start walking around for a while. A simple tip you can try that often helps is to place a bottle of water in the freezer until it freezes and then roll the cold bottle under the sole of your foot while you are sitting down – this helps to massage the muscles under the foot and reduce inflammation.

Plantar Fasciitis

A physiotherapy assessment will include thorough assessment of the foot and leg to make sure it is plantar fasciitis that is causing your symptoms. Treatment choices include hands on techniques such as soft tissue massage of the foot and calf, taping to offload structures can also be very effective. Teaching you ways of stretching and strengthening the surrounding muscles and discussion of footwear will also take place. Acupuncture is another treatment option for this condition.
